Description of the services that we offer:
Tours
1.
Bird watching:
It begins at 6 am or if agreed upon at 2 pm. The majority of the tour
is walking the trails thru the secondary forest as well as to the bird
look out tower. It will be lead by a specialized guide. Upon completion
of the tour we offer you a typical Costa Rican breakfast, which consists
of rice and beans(Gallo Pinto), scrambled eggs, fried bananas, homemade
tortillas, fruit, coffee or a natural drink. The tour lasts 3 hours.
2. Exploring the primary forest:
This tour leaves at 6 am or if agreed upon at 1 pm. The
guests will be able to hike the trails of the secondary and primary forests.
During the hike the specialized guide will be offering information concerning
the history of the reserve, as well as information on the plants and wildlife
that are present in the reserve. The guests will be able to identify the
characteristics of both types of the forests that they visit. During the
hike you will come across areas of water (ravines), bird watching sites,
and panoramic views. At the end of the tour we offer you the typical Costa
Rican lunch, which consists of rice and beans (Gallo Pinto), meat (optional),
vegetables, salad (potatoes, chayote, papaya or flower of itabo) and a
natural drink. It’s important to know that the hike is difficult
at times and is recommended for people in good shape. This tour lasts
4 hours.
3. Horseback ride:
This tour begins at an agreed upon time among the guests. It’s important
to know that your reservations must be made at least 1 day before the
tour. For this tour you have 2 options: Riding thru the mountains or ride
to the Morete River. During the ride thru the mountains the specialized
guide will be offering information concerning the plants and wildlife
that are present on the reservation. You will be visiting sites of great
scenic beauty and panoramic views. The ride to the Morete River will take
place on the local San Josecito trail,
which has beautiful birds. And you will learn the history of the town
of San Josecito. If the guests would like they can take a swim and cool
down at the Morete River. The specialized guide will accompany the guests
at all times. Both options (the forest/mountain or the Morete River) last
3 hours
4. Short walk:
This tour begins at an agreed upon time by the guests. The specialized
guide will offer information about the plants and wildlife. The walk is
mainly in the secondary forest and is not difficult. This tour lasts 2
hours.
5. Trapiche:
The objective is for the guest to learn the traditional “grinding
of the sugar cane”. This process consists of extracting the juice
from the sugar cane, which is then boiled for abo ut
8 hours, and finally it is put in “tamugas” or molds to obtain
the final product; tapas de dulce. The actual demonstration is only of
the extracting part of the process, and the special guide will explain
the rest of the process to the guests, along with a historical review.
This demonstration is included with all of the previously mentioned tours,
however it is necessary to make previous reservations.
6. Natural pools:
The Biological Reserve has several natural pools of various depths, from
half a meter to 6 meters deep. Our guests can cool down in the natural
pools after each of the tours if they wish. With pleasure they will be
accompanied by a specialized guide.
7.
Lodging:
For persons interested in spending more time in our reserve, we have available
our cabin, which requires reservations at least a day before being used,
or if agreed upon the reservations can be made the same day, at least
3 hours before.
8. Transportation:
Oro Verde does usually transport guests, however in the case of emergencies
where the guests have no way to arrive to the Reserve, we may be able
to offer the service. It’s important to make clear that this service
is not always available, and because of the location of our reserve, our
transportation could be more expensive than that of others in our area.
This is because the service we offer is with the vehicles of the family
members of the Duartes. These vehicles are generally on the reserve, and
for example, to pick someone up from Dominical, we’d have to drive
double the distance.
