Waterfalls
Costa Rica Waterfalls, the best tour!
You will find the most amazingly beautiful waterfalls in this area, some of the most famous waterfalls are the Nauyaca waterfalls, near San Isidro de Pérez Zeledón. Another beautiful place to hike in the mountains and enjoy incredible landscapes and waterfalls is "La Casa de Piedra" (in San Cristóbal of Pérez Zeledón, on the way to Dominical), a place where, on the slope of a mountain, they have built a house in a crack in the rock. Right in front of the house is a breathtaking waterfall.
One place where they can help you plan a trip to the waterfalls in the Chirripo area is the Talamanca Reserve (Phone 011 (506) 772-1715, www.TalamancaReserve.com )
In the area of San Vito there are the waterfalls: El Tajo, Canasta, and el Salto, where you can also camp. In this southern area, due to contrasts in the landscape, many incredible waterfalls have been formed!
In the Drake Bay area, the best hotel is Drake Bay Resort. Phone: (506) 770- 8012, www.DrakeBay.Com . At Corcovado Explorations, they offer a lot of activities: Phone: (506) 818-9962. www.CorcovadoExpeditions.net
The Nauyaca waterfalls:
How to get to Nauyaca waterfalls?: Nauyaca Waterfalls is located in Platanilllo, west of Pérez Zeledón on your way to Dominical. Either coming from Dominical or San Isidro de Pérez Zeledón, there are large signs that clearly mark the entrance to the waterfalls.
What to expect in Nauyaca Waterfalls?: To get to the waterfalls, you will have to walk about a half hour (on horse -horseback ridign- or on foot) along a 4-wheel drive trail, and then a small foot path where you will be able to observe
birds and mountain animals. When you arrive to Nauyaca Waterfalls, you will be greeted by a beautiful waterfall about 20m high. There is a large pool at the base which is great for swimming and the water is a perfect, refreshing temperature. You can also sit on some rocks at the base of the waterfall and enjoy a nice massage. If you continue on the trail, you arrive at a much taller waterfall with a small pool that is breathtaking; but hike with caution as the trail is quite steep.
The Santo Cristo waterfalls:
How to get to Santo Cristo waterfalls?: Santo Cristo waterfalls is located in San Cristóbal of Pérez Zeledón, on the way to Dominical. When traveling from San Isidro de Pérez Zeledón towards Dominical, you will see a sign on your left. Turn toward San Salvador and after the first bridge you will find a house on the left side. Ask here where you can find the entrance to the “Casa de Piedra”. You will have to leave your car here and follow on foot along the well-marked trail to the waterfall. You will come to an incredible waterfall facing a beautiful little stone house built into the rock mountain. If you continue on the trail you will find another waterfall and if you climb to the highest point, you will be able to enjoy a panoramic view of the coastline!
What you will need to get to Santo Cristo waterfalls: You will need to be in good physical condition, as the trail up the mountain is very steep. Don't forget your camera, insect repellent (although due to the high altitude there are not many), and binoculars for the panoramic views.
This trip to Santo Cristo waterfalls will be one of the best experiences you can have in this area because you will have the chance to be close to nature as you travel on foot. Here you will see an endless amount of birds, butterflies, and monkeys, and there has also been evidence of other animals, such as otters and armadillos. I recommend this trip to anyone who loves nature, hiking and is not afraid of heights. You will certainly not be disappointed!
