Almost all of the rivers in this part of Costa Rica are clean and anyone can enjoy a dip in the cool, refreshing water. The locals also enjoy swimming in the rivers, and some also take the opportunity to do a little fishing. Many people come to kayak or go rafting on such rivers as the Río General (in Pérez Zeledón) and the Río Coto Brus(in San Vito), where the rapids are classified between III and IV. Traveling down the river, you will be able to observe many trees, birds and iguanas and it would not be surprising to spot some larger jungle creatures!
You can also plan a rafting tour down the Río Grande de Térraba. This tour can take up to two days, and includes camping on the shore for one night, and finally ending in the sea. On this tour you will be able to observe endless amounts of aquatic species, animals, birds, and reptiles. It is a once in a lifetime experience!
