TOUR OF COFFEE PLANTATION AND HARVESTING (in season) The coffee harvest lasts from late September to February. The tour includes an explanatory walk through the ‘cafetal’ and a chance to pick coffee the traditional way. We provide the equipment you need to harvest the coffee, a description of coffee cultivation and processing, and a cup of coffee and a snack to enjoy after your 'day' on the job !

VISIT AN HISTORIC, WORKING TRAPICHE
In Costa Rica sugar cane is produced in traditional villages such as San Gerardo de Rivas where you will find working sugar mills, some still driven by oxen or horses. Visit the ox-driven mill and watch the whole process, savor the ‘dulce’ at different stages and try your hand at driving the mill and packing the sugar cakes.

SWISS CHEESE FACTORY IN CANAAN
Outside San Gerardo in the nearby village of Canaan is the Swiss Cheese Factory. The tour includes a visit to the dairy at milking time, explanation of sustainable agriculture and the biogas converter, and watch how the cheese is made by hand.

'ARTE MIA'
Carmen Monge is the resident artist at this delightful folkloric gallery. Carmen paints in oils and acrylics and uses materials from nature. Her paintings hang in a beautiful gallery and Carmen welcomes visitors daily. Located in the nearby town of Los Angeles the tour is about 4 hours walking, or 2 hours by car. Includes visit to the gallery, tour of the garden and aviary, guide, snack and transportation.

GALLERY OF ART AND CULTURE 'EL PELICANO’
The owner and artist at the ‘El Pelicano Gallery’, Don Rafael (affectionately known as Macho) Elizondo, says his famous sculpture began by chance - because of the inspiration of a grasshopper! He uses many different kinds of wood, tree roots and stone as materials - wherever he can see an image, even if you and I can’t! His talent and creativity has led to many adventures and experiences in his life. Come and hear his story!
