El Toucanet Lodge is located in the Talamanca mountain range between San Jose and the southern region of Costa Rica. For your highland experience we are off the beaten track away from the touristy areas but not many kilometers or hours out of your way, only 11/2 hours from San Jose and twenty minutes off the main highway 2.
Built by owners using planted wood from the farm in 1996 and still family run making guests feel at home. In the dining room you will enjoy home cooked healthy meals and the house specialty fresh baked trout and fresh baked whole wheat breads.
The main attraction is the over 200 species of highland birds and especially the elusive Resplendent Quetzal which has been seen on our morning walks by the grand majority of our guests, other attractions are the cloud forest which surround the valley of Copey including Los Quetzals National Park, Las Vueltas Biological Reserve and within the Los Santos Forest Reserve.
Also a short drive from the lodge (15 min.) will bring you to one of the world’s best coffee growing valley´s in the country, Santa Maria de Dota renowned as one of the best coffees in the world, Coopedota (the local co-op) The offers an authentic coffee tour, explaining and showing you what needs to be done to the coffee cherry to get a great cup of coffee.
